Design Process

After deciding this topic, we've conducted 5 interviews to find out the core problems on breast cancer in women aged between 20 to 50. The results told us that our interviewees had rare knowledge of breast cancer's symptoms, few of them knew how to prevent from the breast cancer, even the mammogram which is the most efficient way to detect the breast cancer, they just heard from it and had no idea on how often should have one.

As our project is dedicated to breast cancer, we are considering the technology and the capability we can reach. We finally decided to focus our target users of women between the ages of 20 - 50 who are not suffering from this cancer. We then decided that our platform should be a mobile application because today cell phones are devices that everyone can have and use.

Finally, we designed that our app should provides symptom information, videos and pictures teaching users how to do self-examination, and suggestion for user to schedule a mammogram. To help the expert consultants know who they are helping, the app will also collect users’ family cancer history onto a timeline and it will provide an option to help user contact nearby doctors. The app asks the user to enter the symptoms and then the results will appear. It will also have suggestions about the next steps that are needed to be sure that the user doesn’t have breast cancer.
